Deputy Commissioner (Election) Establishment

Election Branch is one of the Administrative Organisations in the Administrative set-up of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office. The function of the Branch is more of a regulatory and statutorily body. It functions under the superintendent, directions, and control of the Deputy Commissioner (Election)/ District Election Officer.

Election Branch Functions & Role

  • Preparation of Electoral Rolls.
  • The Conduct of Elections, which are primarily the duties and functions of the Election Branch.
  • Implementation of the Elector’s Photo Identity Card.
  • Conducting free and fair elections and error-free Electoral Rolls continues to remain the primary and priority areas of the Branch.

The public are periodically informed of the programmes of the revision of Electoral Rolls through press release, advertisement, with which the public is called upon to

  • Claims for the inclusion of a name in the rolls, and
  • Object to an entry therein, which is subject to eligibility as laid down in the law.
  • Corrections of particulars.

Delimitation

  • Preparation and compilation of statistical data of population figures.
  • Preparation of maps.

Election Machinery

Establishment matters like appointment of staff for the revision of the Electoral Rolls, Supervisors and Enumerators

Electoral Rolls

  • Preparation and revision of Electoral Rolls.
  • Electoral Rolls for service voters and special voters.
  • Compilation of statistics of voters.
  • Schemes of a photograph identity card.

Conduct of Elections

  • Preparation of the list of polling stations.
  • Parliamentary and Assembly General Elections.
  • Purchase of material for the conduct of Elections.
  • Requisition of vehicles.
  • Polling Personnel-appointment thereof.
  • Law and Order arrangement.
  • Printing of Ballot Paper.
  • Election Expenses.
  • Maintenance of the list of disqualified persons.
  • Electronic Voting machines-use of.
  • Counting of votes and declaration of results.
