Samrakshan Charitable Trust was set up in 1999 and is registered as a Charitable Trust under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882 (Registration Number - 3943 in Book 1 Vol No 1666). In addition to the field office in Meghalaya, field teams are located in Sheopur District of Madhya Pradesh and Saiha district of Mizoram.
Samrakshan Trust has been working in Rongara block of South Garo Hills since 2004 with an objective to conserve the rich biodiversity (floral and faunal) of the region through the active involvement of the local community. The Trust works to foster strong community based institutions to serve as a platform for judicious landuse planning which on the one hand would ensure that the livelihood and income needs of the people are met and on the other protect the forests and the rich biodiversity they harbour. The team strength is fifteen and is divided into three programmatic areas – livelihood support, environment awareness, and wild life monitoring
